Biomedical Engineering has developed into an innovative key technology that combines engineering knowledge with medical, technical, and biological expertise. The focus is on maintaining or restoring human health. The program addresses how valid and medically relevant information from patients' daily lives can be integrated into diagnosis and therapy, how technical assistance systems can promote health and maintain quality of life in old age, and how medical signals can be evaluated for early disease detection. The six-semester (seven with practical semester) application-oriented study is divided into various subject areas including mathematics, physics, computer science, electrical engineering, and medical fundamentals. Students gain insights into human physiology and anatomy, biochemical interactions at the cellular level, with special emphasis on cardiology and neurophysiology. The program offers specializations in medical, orthopedic or rehabilitation technology, robotics and surgical robotics, medical assistance systems, and usability and virtual reality.
