About the Program

Biology is formally divided into botany, zoology, physiology and microbiology as well as overarching disciplines such as genetics, ecology and molecular biology. The aim of the teacher training programme is to enable students to teach biology in a modern, experimentally based way. The program covers all subject areas initially, with specialization options in advanced studies. Biology didactics provides insight into teaching and learning methods. Students learn to evaluate current biological topics like creationism, sustainability, resource management, and animal/plant protection. The program follows the Jena model with a five-month school placement semester in the fifth or sixth semester. Students study two subjects including subject didactics, with pedagogical qualification in educational sciences. A total of 300 credit points must be completed.
