About the Program

The Institute of Biosciences at the University of Rostock offers Biology as a subject for teaching degree. During the course of study, students are prepared for the activities, tasks and responsibilities of the teaching profession. For this purpose, subject, methodological and action competence are to be built up on the basis of solid biological and biology didactic content. The study will enable students to meet the different requirements of the chosen teaching profession in the subject of biology with the help of the knowledge to be acquired about biological facts and theories as well as the knowledge and application of biology didactic basics. Students acquire the prerequisites to enable pupils to develop subject and action competence in the field of biology and thus promote their self-realization in responsibility towards their environment. The study aims at acquiring the First State Examination as a prerequisite for the profession of biology teacher. The Institute of Biosciences comprises 14 professorships covering all aspects of modern biology teacher training and has new laboratory and lecture hall buildings, excellent equipment and a comprehensive biological collection.
