Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

Biology forms the basis of the 'Life Sciences'. It deals with the complex phenomena of life and explores the fundamental interactions between molecules, cells, organisms, populations, and communities. Biologists decipher the molecular basic secrets of life, study the microscopic world, research interactions between different organisms, explore rainforests, deserts, and other habitats, or develop the basics for species conservation. Current focus areas in Halle are molecular mechanisms of biological information processing, especially in plants, protein biochemistry, phytopathology, heavy metal resistance of microorganisms, social behavior and genetics of bees, and functions of biodiversity in the subtropics. Accordingly, the consecutive Master's program in Biology (120 credit points) offers students a broad spectrum of different biological subject modules and research group internships. Focus areas include physiology, genetics, microbiology, ecology, botany, zoology, and developmental biology. The program is strongly research-oriented.
