Bioinformatik und SystembiologieBioinformatics and Systems Biology

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology is a consecutive Master's program jointly developed by departments 7-11 of the University of Giessen and department 6 of the THM - Technical University of Central Hesse. It offers a broad, interdisciplinary orientation and is open to graduates with a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biology, or other scientific-mathematical degree programs. The program is structured into two course semesters and two research semesters. The goals include providing interdisciplinary training based on fundamentals in biology, biomedicine, mathematics, and computer science, with a focus on advanced methods in bioinformatics/systems biology, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, algorithm development for high-throughput data analysis, big data analysis, machine learning, and in silico modeling of complex biological processes and systems. Students can specialize in two of four focus areas: algorithms in bioinformatics, molecular systems biology, modeling of complex biological systems, and high-throughput data analysis.
