Bioinformatics

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

Bioinformatics combines computer science and life sciences to form an exciting, innovative and future-oriented field of research. The program trains specialists who are competent in both areas: bioinformaticians speak both the language of computer science and that of the life sciences to solve problems with computer-assisted methods. They can mediate between these two fields and establish connections. Bioinformatics is used for predicting genetic predispositions for diseases, understanding how medicines work, and deciphering the blueprints of humans, bacteria and plants. It's a key technology increasingly used by industry, with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and biomedical research companies seeking young talent. The program focuses initially on the basics of biology (especially molecular biology), computer science and mathematics, providing programming skills and foundations of bioinformatic thinking. Later, students expand their knowledge with practical programming, implementation of algorithms, molecular evolution, and molecular structures.
