About the Program
The study of Fine Arts at ABK Stuttgart offers a broad spectrum of artistic expressions, ranging from painting and sculpture to glass design, ceramics, free graphics (drawing/printmaking), photography, video, digital and time-based art, installation and performance. The development of one's own artistic self-understanding is at the center of the studies, offering students great freedom to learn artistic methods and working styles. Teaching takes place in small, excellently supervised groups, with workshops and laboratories being of central importance for artistic training. In regular class and individual discussions, students learn to present, discuss and classify their artistic work - an important basis for developing their own artistic position. Equally important is the development of an artistic problem awareness and linguistic skills to articulate one's own artistic standpoint. This requires building up art historical and art theoretical knowledge, which students acquire in lectures and seminars on art history, art theory, art didactics, media theory and aesthetics.
