The ALPHA Master's program aims at advanced education in the field of Ancient Studies with its archaeological and philological disciplines including Egyptology, Ancient Oriental Studies, Archaeology of the Stone Ages, Byzantine Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, Classical Philology, Provincial Roman Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology, and Prehistoric and Early Historical Archaeology. Common overarching modules provide insights into current methods, theories, and research trends and train interdisciplinarity. The choice of focus allows concentration on a specific subject culture and its regions, epochs, artifacts and/or writing systems and language worlds. Project seminars, internships, and excursions convey research activities and offer experiences in the field of excavations, museums, archives, etc. The individual choice within three profiles accommodates subject-specific research-oriented training, personal-professional interests, and interdisciplinary perspectives. The intensive examination of early European and non-European societies is intended to create a framework for reflection on the emergence and change of our current world. The scientific and personal engagement with different cultural circles also sensitizes for international political and social contexts. Together with the diverse practical, digital, and methodological teaching components, through which relevant future skills such as ambiguity, reflection, and innovation competence are trained, this qualifies graduates for different career paths not only in science but also in other professional fields of current and future character.
