About the Program

The Master's program in Applied Landscape and Field Archaeology (ALFA) is a cooperative program between the Department of History and Cultural Studies at Freie Universität Berlin and the Department of Design and Culture at the University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin). Students from both institutions learn and research together. The program is deliberately practice-oriented to teach modern methods and concepts of both landscape and field archaeology. It focuses on protecting archaeological heritage in landscapes, using non-invasive prospection methods, minimal-invasive exploration of sites, understanding cultural landscape development, and applying modern documentation techniques including GIS and 3D documentation.
