Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Anglophone Studies offers three specializations: American Studies, British and Postcolonial Studies, and English Linguistics. All three variants emphasize the study of linguistic, literary, and cultural phenomena in their socio-cultural and political contexts. The integration of linguistic and literary content with Cultural Studies is central to the program structure. The American Studies specialization focuses on interculturality and cultural/ethnic identity, with the possibility to specialize in inter-American studies. The British and Postcolonial Studies specialization examines the anglophone world in its entirety with the diverse connections between literatures and cultures ("Global Anglophone Studies"), with the option to focus on postcolonial studies. The English Linguistics specialization concentrates on variation linguistics and language usage linguistics. All three specializations include three language practice courses, theory courses, a research colloquium for the Master's thesis, and a continuous orientation toward cultural studies aspects. All courses are generally conducted in English.
