About the Program

The Master's program Anglophone Literatures and Media (M.A.) is offered as a single-subject program by the Department of English Studies. It is a consecutive Master's program following an undergraduate degree. The English-language program is aimed at interested individuals with a relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification who wish to engage in an in-depth study of English-language literature, culture, and media, as well as their research and methods. The academic focus of the English-language program is on the history and global contexts of literature and (inter)media relationships in the Anglophone world, with special emphasis on postcolonial and diasporic backgrounds. Within the framework of a free elective area, individual, interdisciplinary focuses with a professional or academic orientation can be chosen. A voluntary stay abroad also offers the opportunity to gain intercultural experience and deepen language skills. During the course of study, graduates acquire well-founded specialist knowledge of English-language literature, enhanced methodological skills, and a pronounced intercultural social and personal competence. Depending on further qualification, the degree qualifies for a broad spectrum of activities. Potential professional fields include journalism and media as well as publishing and cultural institutions. In addition, career opportunities are available in research and educational institutions as well as in corporate organizations, personnel training and management, and national and international communication.
