About the Program

In the major subject "Ancient Greek Language and Literature", you will gain content and methodological expertise in the area of the literature of Ancient Greece and its reception in the Middle Ages and the modern era. You will also acquire and consolidate the linguistic skills required for this. With these skills and expertise, you can do academic work in the field of Greek philology, become acquainted with philological problems and analyse these critically and systematically. In particular, your language skills (insight into the systematics of the Greek language or inflectional languages in general, translation skills), your historical competence (ability to place texts in a historical and literary context) and your cultural competence (ability to name and convey reception references to ancient texts and conferences) will be trained. In Marburg, the research focuses of Classical Philology are on the key texts of the ancient world, on which science, literature and philosophy are based in various cultural traditions.
