Agriculture, Ecology and Societies

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

Agriculture is the most far-reaching interaction between humans and the planet. In overlapping food, environmental, climate and political crises worldwide, agriculture and rural development play a key role. The Master program Agriculture, Ecology & Societies (AGES) allows students to connect these threads and study agricultures as complex socio-ecological systems. It combines a sound agronomic qualification with a good understanding of how agriculture is economically and socially embedded. With a wide range of modules and projects to choose from, students are encouraged to proactively build the program around their interests and career goals. The program emphasises interdisciplinary, critical and project-based learning, and is taught by scholars from a variety of (inter-)disciplinary backgrounds. All AGES modules are taught in English. AGES is offered by the Department of Ecological Agricultural Sciences and combines the experience and facilities of four other departments at the University of Kassel: Department 02 - Humanities and Cultural Studies, Department 05 - Social Sciences, Department 06 - Architecture - Urban Planning - Landscape Planning, Department 07 - Economic Sciences.
