Learning locations include lecture halls, seminar and practice rooms, and libraries at the University of the Federal Employment Agency (Hochschule der Bundesagentur für Arbeit). Learning also takes place at home, for instance, by studying e-learning materials, preparing for and reviewing lectures, and completing term papers.

The study covers 3 perspectives of counseling: Labor Market and Labor Market Policy, Education and Profession, and Management and Leadership. From the 3rd semester, students choose two perspectives as specializations. Compulsory modules include, for example, Labor Market Models, International Comparative Professional Biographies, Evaluation, Institutions, Search and Matching, Public Governance and Public Management, and Topic Areas and Actors in Counseling. Elective modules include, for example, Incentives and Organizational Economics, Research Methods: Empirical Social Research, Human Resources Management and Leadership, Lifelong Learning, Regional Labor Markets and Demographic Change, and The Future of Work. Practical study content includes the possibility of completing an internship abroad in the 4th semester, and a research project is undertaken.

The Regional Directorates of the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) conduct a selection process.

One should be prepared for the following conditions and requirements: Courses involve attending lectures and seminars during attendance phases (Präsenzphasen) in the university's lecture halls and seminar rooms. The part-time study alongside work (Berufsbegleitendes Studium) means working during the day on weekdays and engaging in self-study (Selbststudium) at home in the evenings and on weekends. Independent work includes going through e-learning materials, preparing for and reviewing courses, researching in libraries, preparing presentations, and completing term papers. Organization and planning require independently planning the study program (Studium), adhering to specified study periods, and submitting study and exam performances on time (self-discipline and organizational talent are required).

The advanced (weiterbildende) field of study in Labor Market-Oriented Counseling deepens knowledge gained from at least 2 years of professional activity (Berufstätigkeit) at the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit - BA). It leads to a second university degree (Hochschulabschluss). Students further their education in the 3 perspectives of counseling: Education and Profession, Labor Market and Labor Market Policy, and Management and Leadership. The study program (Studium) is completed part-time (Teilzeit) at the BA University. Students are employees of the BA.

For Master's graduates in Labor Market-Oriented Counseling, opportunities arise at an office of the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) in labor market-oriented counseling within the areas of "Education and Profession," "Labor Market and Labor Market Policy," or "Management and Leadership."
