The earliest appointment is in early October, what should you do?

Current status (checked 14.10.2026): In Türkiye, study and study-place-search visa applications are handled only through the Consular Services Portal (Auslandsportal): digital.diplo.de/studium (source). The official page does not say since when this rule applies; 14.10.2026 is only the date we checked it. The iDATA appointment steps below do not apply to these two visa types. For other national visas the missions work with iDATA and IOM-FAP (source).

The Wintersemester starts on October 1, but if your visa appointment is scheduled for early September-October, urgent action is needed.

• Visa application to approval: 4-12 weeks
• Total process: Early September application + 8 weeks = Visa by end of November
• Universität starts in October → visa won't be ready!

• Write an urgent reason letter to IDATA
• Universität acceptance letter (with an approaching validity date)
• Urgent reason: "The Wintersemester is starting, and I need to be in Germany in person for Anmeldung"
• Decision: Within 1-2 weeks — if accepted, an early appointment

#Solution 2: Try Other Consulates

• If Istanbul is busy → Ankara, İzmir, Antalya, Trabzon
• Antalya/Trabzon are the fastest (4-8 weeks)
• You might need to change your address (legal requirement)
• Applying to the Trabzon consulate from Antalya is not legal — address + residency registration is required

#Solution 3: Universität Enrollment Deferral

• 1 semester deferral (to the Sommersemester)
• The Universität grants Beurlaubung (temporary enrollment deferral)
• Generally free and easily accepted
• Enroll in the program for April-September 2027 instead of the Wintersemester

• The Universität might allow online Anmeldung (via Skype/Email)
• Catch up by taking online classes for the first few weeks

• Beurlaubung is generally free
