About the Program

The Theatre Studies and Performance Studies program explores what theatre is and how it evolved, how to analyze productions, when people exhibit performative behavior, the challenges theatre faces today, and the role theatre has played in history. The program applies liberal-arts theories to scenic and performative practices and offers specialization in fields such as history, theory of scenic arts, analysis, dramaturgy, mediality, scenic research, and philosophy. It can be combined with B.A. 'Musikwissenschaft' at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen. An internship is optional as part of the optional module, and studying abroad is recommended in the 3rd semester.
