Studiengang Visuelle KommunikationVisual Communication

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

Visuelle Kommunikation designates communication processes that use images (static or moving), signs, text, and sound. Visual communication can be carried through two-dimensional printed media, digital media, and spatial media. Students acquire the ability to conceptualize, design, and implement communicative processes based on artistic, design, and conceptual experiences. The study focuses on design and conception, with special emphasis on the creative and theoretical foundations of Visual Communication. The acquisition of a broad design foundation and an understanding of the essential media that define the professional field enables students to approach and solve complex and interdisciplinary tasks methodically. The program is characterized by an intensive interaction between practical design work and theoretical examination of the effects of visual, audiovisual, and verbal communication, as well as cultural and social topics. Project work is central to teaching. Students learn conception and implementation methods during project studies on concrete tasks realized in collaboration with external partners. With increasing independence, students set their own priorities and define their topics. The study prepares for the consecutive Master's program in Visual Communication, for entry into professional practice, and for further studies in Master's and Diploma programs in related design disciplines.
