About the Program

The law program at Europa-Universität Viadrina aims to train individuals who understand law not only as a set of rules but also as an instrument for shaping society and resolving conflicts. The program consists of a basic study period (Grundstudium) lasting 3-4 semesters, followed by the main study period (Hauptstudium). Students acquire fundamental knowledge in the three main legal areas: civil law, criminal law, and public law, as well as methodological skills. The program includes lectures, working groups, and practical case studies. After the intermediate examination (Zwischenprüfung), students can specialize in one of eight focus areas. The program culminates in the First Legal Examination, consisting of a state examination in mandatory subjects and a university examination in the chosen specialization area. Students can also earn an integrated Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree after six semesters.
