About the Program

The study of law (Rechtswissenschaft) deals with questions of law, its interpretation, and validity that accompany us in all situations of life. The program is complex but also multifaceted. In nine semesters, students explore various areas of law. After acquiring general foundational knowledge and solid understanding in the three main legal areas (Public Law, Criminal Law, and Civil Law) during basic and main studies, students must choose one of 11 specialization areas, such as Commercial and Corporate Law, Social Law with labor law references, Information and Communication, European and International Law, and Maritime Economic Law. Students must also acquire competencies in key qualifications (e.g., negotiation management, communication, rhetoric, and mediation) and foreign language skills with a legal focus. Additionally, internships totaling three months are required. The program concludes with the 'First Legal Examination' (formerly called the 1st State Examination), which consists of the 'university specialization examination' and the 'state compulsory subject examination'.
