Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The two-year academic Master's degree course in Photography Studies and Research is aimed at anyone who is fascinated by critical reflection on photography. The aim is to impart and acquire fundamental knowledge of the almost two-hundred-year history of the image as a artistic medium, the widely ramified theory of photography and, last but not least, the practical fundamentals of various photographic processes and technologies. Together with the artistic Master's course "Photography Studies and Practice", it forms a tandem of two complementary programs. The Folkwang University of the Arts is the only place in Europe where practical, theoretical and historical interests in photography can be combined at Master's level.
