About the Program

Would you like to explore photography not only as an art form, but also as a medium of communication and documentation? Then the interdisciplinary Master's programme "Photography – Medium and Archive" is just right for you. In cooperation with the German Documentation Centre for Art History (DDK) and the "Bildarchiv Foto Marburg", we offer you a unique combination of art history, media studies and archival research. During your studies, you will delve deeply into the theory and practice of photography and learn how to apply scientific methods to photography as a medium of art, communication and memory. You will gain in-depth insights into current areas of research and be able to apply this knowledge in practice in a targeted manner. After graduating, you will be ideally qualified for management positions in institutions that work with photography and image archives, whether in (art) museums, libraries, monument preservation offices or private collections. You will also be able to work in various media areas and public relations. If you wish to pursue an academic career, this programme also provides the perfect foundation for a PhD.
