About the Program

Music Theory and Aural Skills is a major offered as part of the Music Promotion performance degree program. The Music Theory and Aural Skills program of study focuses on the interface between composed music and music interpretation as well as music practice and music theory/analysis, including teaching these specialist areas. As a result the Music Theory and Aural Skills bachelor's degree program, which normally takes eight semesters to complete, combines various subjects: In addition to instruction given in the Music Theory/Aural Skills major, individual voice or instrumental lessons are also completed throughout the program. The syllabus for this major also includes conducting, improvisation and score reading. An additional major focuses on teaching. Here students acquire basic methodological and pedagogical knowledge and skills. Finally a large offering of electives provides a wide range of opportunity for deepening and broadening artistic ability.
