About the Program

Graduates of the Master's program in Organ Improvisation are qualified to fulfill church service design with regard to organ contributions (regardless of denomination) in an artistically outstanding manner. The training aims at acquiring a sovereign playing technique as well as developing a stylistically adapted interpretation ability. This also includes the stylistically confident presentation of suitable organ literature. Regarding stylistics, variety of forms and improvisation techniques, the broadest possible spectrum is sought. Knowledge of composition theory, harmonization and composition, as well as liturgical integration are essential. Basic craftsmanship of improvisation is further developed. In addition, the creative and artistic presentation of improvised organ music in a concert setting is required, but usually in combination with organ literature. This includes the pursuit of one's own and thus also contemporary musical language.
