Master

About the Program

The practical procedures of Media Art and Design (MAD) are artistic and design-oriented in nature. The special character of this programme lies in the interconnection of auditory, visual, interactive, event-based, and conceptual challenges. The acquisition of artistic and scientific knowledge and the development of innovative media formats are at the centre of the project-based studies. Furthermore, MAD is the only interdisciplinary academic programme at the Faculty of Art and Design that also includes classes of the "Media Studies" and "Computer Studies" programmes of the Faculty of Media. We provide students with the artistic and design-oriented competences necessary for audio-visual design tasks, project planning, and realisation in the area of artistic/design research as well as in professional practice. You will develop professional skills, for example, through interdisciplinary group work or independent studies. The goals of this Master's degree programme are as follows: a) to teach students to independently and thoughtfully apply artistic/design-oriented skills (including creative, analytical/critical, free and applied skills). b) help students obtain a modern, professionally qualifying competence to apply and further research their area of expertise in greater depth. c) to provide students with the skills necessary for completing, presenting, and defending a Master's thesis that can have either a theoretical/reflective or practical, artistic/design-oriented focus. d) to enable students to work as professional artists and/or designers who effectively shape media and their aesthetic as well as production and consumption conditions in daily life.
