About the Program

The Law program focuses on understanding how the German legal system and its laws work. Students learn to interpret and apply legal texts, developing their powers of reasoning, advocacy, language proficiency, and analytical thinking skills. The program concentrates on three main areas: Civil Law, Public Law, and Criminal Law. In later semesters, students can specialize in areas such as Fundamentals of Law and Legal Studies, German and European Business Law, German and European Labour and Social Law, German and European Public Law, Criminology, International Law, or Administration of Civil Justice and Contract Drafting. The standard period of study is 10 semesters, consisting of foundation studies (Grundstudium) and advanced studies (Hauptstudium), culminating in the first legal examination. After university studies, graduates complete a legal traineeship (Referendariat) before taking the second legal examination.
