About the Program

Art History studies the origin, character, function, and impact of works of art as well as design, photography, and audiovisual media in European culture and history since late antiquity. It deals with the material and conceptual foundations of these artworks, artistic materials and techniques, the history of artist training, art pedagogy, and art theory and aesthetics. It also examines the history of art history, methods, and institutions. The Bachelor's program provides fundamental knowledge in the field of history and theory of fine arts as well as methodological competence in dealing with different themes, epochs, and genres of art and their specific research problems. Graduates should be able to critically and creatively apply scientific knowledge, methods, and theories within the various areas of art historical work.
