About the Program

The program at KHM is a demanding project-based study characterized by free choice and individual combination of artistic focuses. In this open process, a large number of artistic works are created that are film works in the broadest sense: short or long fictional, documentary, experimental and essayistic film works, animation films, recordings of performances, mixed film forms of all kinds, and much more. The student is often the idea finder, author, and director in one person, but with the first project, they also become the producer of their own work. From this point on, they must learn to take economic responsibility for their artistic project, creative decisions, and possibly also the team. The program teaches the essential economic, organizational, and technical fundamentals of producing audiovisual works through specialized seminars focusing on 'Production'. Topics covered include idea development, traditional and alternative financing methods, casting, packaging, calculation, production planning, shooting and post-production planning, as well as possibilities for national and international exploitation of one's own works. The subject area is expanded to include media law fundamentals, focusing on copyright awareness, personality rights, and contract design. The program also emphasizes the importance of sustainable film and media production.
