About the Program

The Master of Science in International Health (MScIH) programme is a flexible modular study programme, which can be studied full-or part-time. The regular study period is two years full-time (90 ECTS). If relevant professional experience has been acquired before admission to the programme the MScIH can be completed in one year. The programme consists of 4 parts: 1) The Core Course - Tropical Medicine and Public Health (20 ECTS), 2) Advanced Modules (20 ECTS), 3) Relevant Professional Experience (RPE), and 4) Master Thesis (30 ECTS). The Core Course runs from early September until mid-December (15 weeks) and provides the basic knowledge and main principles of International Health. Advanced Modules are selected by students according to their individual interests, mostly as full-time courses of 1-4 weeks duration running between January and June. The Institute of International Health at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is a member of the tropEd Network for Education in International Health, which facilitates student mobility and participation in modules from network partners in other countries. The programme provides participants with the principles, concepts, skills and tools related to promotion of health, prevention, early detection, treatment and rehabilitation of diseases as well as health system strengthening and informing policy, and prepares participants for a career in the fields of International and Global Health. International Health combines Public Health, Social Medicine, Epidemiology, Tropical Medicine, Economics, and Health Management Sciences, and deals with poverty-related diseases in Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
