Intermedia Design

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The master's degree program in Intermedia Design offers an integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum that urges students to focus on challenges, potentials and consequences of design in the context of today's and future tasks. Between the priorities of design research and design science, teamwork and joint classes with international students and lecturers enrich the program. The studio is a central component. Varied design perspectives presented by two lecturers arrogate and encourage artisticalyy-explorative and methodologically-scientific modes of operation. Research-oriented projects on socially relevant topics are narrowly accompanied with methodologies, such as system-oriented design, human-centered design, participatory design and sustainability strategies. In the context of this holistic design approach the curriculum allows for a focus on individual topics in classical design disciplines: "2D" (visual communication, information and editorial design, brand development and communication campaigns), "3D" (product design, capital goods design, transportation design, furniture and interior design) or "4D" (moving picture and interaction design, films and videos, digital publishing, interactive installations and physical computing).
