About the Program

The Master's program in Historical Performance Practice (HIP) is designed for musicians who consider knowledge of historical circumstances essential for interpreting music from past centuries. The program covers both the use of historical instruments (or their replicas) appropriate to different eras, as well as performance practices derived from historical sources and treatises. The stylistic range within the program extends from music before 1600 to the 19th century. The aim is to train musicians who can establish themselves in the freelance music scene due to their comprehensive stylistic education and maintain a constant interest in new insights for musical interpretation. The program also aims to provide orchestra musicians with better career opportunities by teaching additional technical and stylistic skills and knowledge. The study is possible in the following main subjects: recorder, traverso flute, historical oboe, baroque bassoon/dulcian, natural horn, natural trumpet, historical violin/viola, baroque cello, viola da gamba, violone/historical double bass, lute, harpsichord, fortepiano, and organ.
