High School Arts Instruction

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The Artistic Teaching at Grammar Schools (School Music) program prepares students for dynamic and versatile music teaching at schools. It offers intensive artistic training in a specialization subject as an important foundation. Compulsory subjects include singing, piano, choral conducting, music theory, aural training, and jazz harmony, taught individually or in small groups. The program emphasizes consolidation and networking of individual artistic, academic, pedagogical, and practical school skills. The university maintains cooperation with other faculties and schools in the region. With small semester sizes (6-7 students), the supervision is intensive, and students form a close 'school music family' across semesters. Students participate actively in university policy processes and the development of the program. Parallel to the music degree, students study a scientific subject at KIT Karlsruhe or Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and complete an educational science course. The program includes an orientation internship and a practical semester at a grammar school.
