Fine Arts

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

About the Program

The Fine Arts Bachelor of Education program at the Kunsthochschule Mainz focuses on both practical art and theory. Students develop their artistic expression through experimentation with form, color, and ideas while also studying art theory and art history. The program includes classes in sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, film, video, and media art. Students learn in closely supervised artistic classes with the freedom to develop their own ideas. The program also teaches fundamental practical and didactic skills for future art education in gymnasiums (secondary schools). The study is divided into two sections: an orientation phase (1st-2nd semester) where students get their own studio space in the basic class, and specialized study in an individually chosen artistic class (from 3rd semester onwards). Students also participate in introductory courses in the art school's workshops (wood, metal, printmaking, media lab, analog and digital photography, painting techniques).
