About the Program

The Master Film program at Hamburg Media School is a practice-oriented, artistic master's degree program in cooperation with the Hamburg University of Fine Arts (HFBK). Students earn a "Master of Arts" (M.A.) degree from HFBK in two years. The program starts every two years with 24 highly talented students admitted - six each in the areas of directing, screenwriting, production, and cinematography. Selection takes place through a multi-stage, demanding application process. The program focuses on maximum practical relevance: within two years, a total of 18 fully financed short films are produced - all according to international production standards (three films per team). Despite its excellence structure and high-quality equipment, there are no tuition fees for the program - only the regular semester fee of the HFBK must be paid.
