Elite Master's Programme: Biomedical Neuroscience (MSc)

Master

About the Program

The Biomedical Neuroscience programme is an interdisciplinary course of study, executed by lecturers from both natural science institutes and clinicians and clinical scientists. The aim of the programme is to provide an in-depth education in basic neuroscience and neuropsychiatric diseases, covering both theoretical foundations and practical technical skills required for commonly used experimental methods in basic and clinical research. Teaching is a blend of theoretical instruction and hands-on classes, incorporating project-oriented scientific work in the laboratories of participating institutes. In addition to core neuroscience topics, the curriculum also includes training in data analysis, scientific ethics, management, and communication. The qualification profile of the graduates includes a deep understanding of brain function and structure, from molecules and cells to large-scale circuits, behaviour, and the mechanisms and treatment strategies of different neuropsychiatric diseases. Through lab rotations and practical scientific work, students will become familiar with the most relevant technologies in both basic and clinical research, enhancing their capabilities in the field of neuroscience. Graduates of the programme will be able to evaluate scientific data and apply appropriate statistical methods. Given the growing demand in the field, MSc BmN programme graduates will have excellent career prospects in academic research, clinical settings, and industry. In a nutshell: Elite MSc training in biomedical neuroscience for natural science and medical students Unique expertise at TUM closely linked to the Excellence Initiative and DZNE Excellent resources via TUM strategy to develop neurosciences and medical education Early hands-on courses as an integral training element Innovative scientific-didactic approach Institutionalised international collaboration with ELSC / Hebrew University Close integration with existing, international, top-level PhD programmes for further academic development “Frontier science” with excellent career prospects in academia and industry
