Computational Mechanics

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Master's Program in Computational Mechanics combines theoretical and applied mechanics as well as computer science, software engineering and applied mathematics. New solutions for the numerical simulation of mechanical problems in engineering science are developed. Computational Mechanics is becoming a central element across all areas of engineering science and practice. Students learn how to tackle problems – particularly in civil engineering and mechanical engineering – using numerical approximation methods. The program combines advanced methods of theoretical, applied, and structural mechanics with computer science, software development, and applied mathematics. Students engage with topics such as continuum mechanics, structural mechanics and stability theory, structural and fluid dynamics, functional analysis, computer science and programming, linear and nonlinear finite element methods, structural and multidisciplinary optimization, modeling and simulation, networking, as well as distributed and parallel computing.
