Art history explores national and international artworks, their creation, their appearance, how they function, and the impressions they create. Its field of study encompasses the classical artistic media, architecture, graphics, handicrafts, painting, plastic arts and to some extent cross-media art forms and the mass media. The discipline also examines epochs and genres ranging from the Middles Ages to the modern period to contemporary art. The program focuses on examination of artworks' depicted contents, understanding the political, social and cultural framework of their creation, interpretation of artworks considering aesthetic, historical, sociological or economic aspects, including knowledge of artists' biographies and artistic techniques.
