About the Program

The Bachelor of Science in Architecture at HCU Hamburg provides students with a solid foundation for a professional qualification in the field of architecture. Graduates are prepared for activities in architectural and planning offices in the areas of construction and project management, construction implementation, and public construction administration. The program focuses on developing critical and creative personalities with professional competence who can work independently and as team players in planning and designing our visible living environment. The architecture program has a consecutive structure where students progress from guided experimentation to increasing independence. The bachelor's course is structured over three years: The 1st year focuses on 'Seeing - Forming - Experimenting' with introductions to architectural thinking and design. The 2nd year emphasizes 'Noting - Connecting - Applying' with practice-oriented design projects that incorporate adjacent disciplines. The 3rd year centers on 'Reflecting - Formulating' and accounts for students' individual architectural talents through elective modules, selectable projects, and the Bachelor thesis. The program particularly emphasizes climate change, digitalization, and social transformation as key challenges for future architects. Integrative projects form the highlight of the bachelor's course, with interdisciplinary collaboration being a core component, especially in the 5th semester where students work with other disciplines at HCU.
