Can I apply for multiple types of residence permits at the same time?

Generally, you cannot apply for multiple main types of residence permits simultaneously in Germany – for example, a student permit and a job seeker permit at the same time. You're expected to clearly define the primary purpose of your stay and apply for a single, appropriate visa or residence permit type. That said, in certain situations, it might be possible to switch from one visa type to another once you are already in Germany.
