How to apply to AOK Bayern as a student?

AOK Bayern is the most popular statutory health insurance for students in München and the Bayern region.

#Application Process

#Step 1: Online Application

• aok.de/bayern → "Studierende" tab
• Fill out the online form:
  • Personal information (passport/ID)
  • University information (TUM, LMU, FAU etc.)
  • Visa/residence status
  • German address (if Anmeldung has been done)
• Submit form → Confirmation e-mail arrives in 1-2 business days

#Step 2: Verification

• AOK Bayern requests your Immatrikulation belgesi to verify university enrollment
• Upload documents via e-mail or the online portal

#Step 3: Versicherungsbescheinigung

• The insurance confirmation document arrives as a PDF within 3-7 business days
• Present this document to the Universität → enrollment is complete

#Step 4: Insurance Card (Gesundheitskarte)

• The physical card arrives by post within 2-3 weeks
• It states versicherte Person and Krankenversichertennummer
• Show the card during doctor visits (chip reader)

• Anmeldebescheinigung (from Bürgeramt)
• SteuerID (arrives after Anmeldung, add later if not available during application)

#Common Problems and Solutions

#Problem: No SteuerID

• AOK first provides vorläufige Versicherung (temporary insurance)
• Inform the insurance company when your SteuerID arrives, and it will be updated

#Problem: Anmeldung not done

• AOK Bayern sometimes accepts applications with temporary Anmeldung (special cases)
• Full approval requires Anmeldung

#Problem: Universität not yet enrolled

• Zulassungsbescheid (admission letter) allows for temporary insurance
• Update documents after actual enrollment
