Can you register with the local authorities (Anmeldung) in Germany as a subtenant?
Yes, even if you're staying as a subtenant (Untermieter) in Germany, you are legally required to register with the local authorities, known as the Anmeldung (or Bürgerservice). This is a mandatory step you must complete within the first two weeks of moving to Germany. The only exception is if you are already registered elsewhere and plan to stay in Germany for less than six months. For your registration, you'll need a "Wohnungsgeberbestätigung" from your main landlord.
