Short answer: For a German student visa application from Türkiye, 3 main documents are critical: an acceptance letter (Zulassung), a Sperrkonto (blocked account with 11,904 € annually, 2026), and health insurance (~120 €/month). Consulate appointment waiting time is 4-12 weeks, and the decision after application is 6-12 weeks. The visa fee is 75 €. If rejected, you have the right to appeal (Remonstration).

Which visa do you need to go to Germany as a student?

As a Turkish citizen, if you plan to stay in Germany for more than 90 days, you definitely need a national visa (D-type). You cannot start your education with a Schengen tourist visa — even if you enter the country, it is incompatible with work permits and long-term residency, and there is a risk of being turned back at the border.

There are three types of national visas:

Visa type When Duration Next step
§16b – Studienvisum (student visa) If you have a university acceptance letter 1 year, extendable Converted to an Aufenthaltstitel in Germany
§17 – Studienbewerbervisum (applicant visa) No acceptance yet, you will apply 3-9 months Converted to a Studienvisum once accepted
