Frequently Asked Questions about University Eligibility

Anabin classification, Studienkolleg path, and diploma recognition

How does the eligibility checker work?

You enter your country and high-school diploma type. The tool maps it against the Anabin database (Germany's official foreign-credentials catalogue) and tells you: (a) direct university entry, (b) Studienkolleg required first, or (c) 2 years of home-country university before German entry.

What is Anabin?

Anabin is the official Standing Conference of Education Ministers (KMK) database evaluating foreign academic qualifications. German universities must check Anabin when admitting international students — it's the legal reference for diploma equivalence.

My diploma isn't in Anabin — what do I do?

Three options: (1) Apply via uni-assist which has its own equivalence experts, (2) Contact the target university directly (some accept individual assessments), (3) Take the TestAS (Test für Ausländische Studierende) which is universally accepted.

How accurate is this checker?

We use the official Anabin classification so the eligibility outcome is the same the university would see. But the final admission decision rests with each university — some have stricter requirements (high GPA cutoff, specific subjects, language). Use this checker as starting point.

What is Studienkolleg and how long does it take?

Studienkolleg is a 1-year (2-semester) foundation program at a German university that prepares students whose diploma is not directly equivalent. Five tracks exist: T-Kurs (engineering/science), M-Kurs (medical), W-Kurs (economics), G-Kurs (humanities), S-Kurs (language/social).
