What is the difference between Fintiba Basic and Plus, and which one is sufficient for a national visa?
Fintiba has two packages; both are accepted for the visa, but the scope difference varies depending on the student.
Comparison
| Feature | Basic | Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Sperrkonto | Yes | Yes |
| Opening fee | 89 € | 89 € |
| Monthly | 4.90 € | 9.90 € |
| Travel insurance | No | Yes (first 90 days) |
| GKV connection (TK) | No | Yes |
| Registration + visa consulting | No | Yes |

For the National Visa?
From the consulate's perspective, both are accepted, because two main documents are required for the visa: Sperrkonto proof + insurance. Basic does not include insurance, so you need to get separate insurance.
Which One Is Right For You?
Choose Basic + separate insurance if:
- you know which insurance you want (Care Concept, Mawista etc.)
- you have prior experience with arranging insurance
- your budget is tight (Basic + cheap insurance = ~120 €/total for the first year)
Choose Plus if:
- you want "everything to be handled in one package"
- you are going to Germany for the first time and don't want to feel overwhelmed
- you want them to prepare your student GKV transition with TK (you will then arrange the transition to TK yourself)
Practical Numbers
12-month total:
- Basic + separate travel insurance: ~89 + (4.9 × 12) + (50 × 12) = ~750 €
- Plus: ~89 + (9.9 × 12) = ~210 € (includes first 90 days of insurance, then GKV)
Plus is more economical in the long run.
