How many weeks on average does it take to get a visa appointment from the Ankara consulate?
Current status (checked 14.10.2026): In Türkiye, study and study-place-search visa applications are handled only through the Consular Services Portal (Auslandsportal): digital.diplo.de/studium (source). The official page does not say since when this rule applies; 14.10.2026 is only the date we checked it. The iDATA appointment steps below do not apply to these two visa types. For other national visas the missions work with iDATA and IOM-FAP (source).
Student visa appointment waiting times at the Ankara consulate vary greatly by season.
Typical Waiting Times (2025-2026)
| Period | Appointment waiting time |
|---|---|
| March-May (Wintersemester preparation) | 6-10 weeks |
| June-August (peak) | 3-5 months |
| September-November (Sommersemester preparation) | 4-8 weeks |
| December-February (calm period) | 2-4 weeks |
Appointment Types
- National visa (Studium) — Directly via the Ankara consulate
- Via IDATA — centralized for some procedures (İstanbul, İzmir, Antalya, Bursa)
- Blue Card / job seeker visa — IDATA Ankara (different category)
Strategies for Faster Appointments
- Refresh the iDATA website at 09:00 AM (for national visas other than study; in Türkiye the German missions work with iDATA and IOM-FAP, not VFS Global) — new appointments open at those times
- Check weekend/Monday morning — backlog opens up
- Check for cancellations — look 3-5 times a day
- Email the consulate directly: vize@ankara.diplo.de — state an urgent reason (semester start date)
- Obtain a Vorab-Zustimmung — prior approval from the Ausländerbehörde in Germany → appointment priority
Important Date
If you are aiming for the Wintersemester (October), start your application process by early May at the latest. You will miss the summer peak.
