Do you need to open an account in Turkey to withdraw money from your Sperrkonto?

✓ Answered · 2 min read · 151 views

No, it is not necessary. To withdraw money from your Sperrkonto, only a current account (Girokonto) in Germany is sufficient. A Turkish account is not required.

Process

  1. Arrive in Germany, complete your Anmeldung.
  2. Open a Girokonto in Germany (N26, Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, Postbank, Sparkasse, ING).
  3. Request an "Auszahlung" (payout) from your Fintiba/Expatrio panel.
  4. Enter the Girokonto to which the money should be sent (IBAN).
  5. Monthly 992 € will automatically be transferred to your Girokonto.

Choosing a Girokonto (For Students)

Bank Monthly fee Advantage
N26 0 € Online, fast, English
Commerzbank Studierende 0 € Traditional, many ATMs
ING Direkt 0 € Online, offers interest
Postbank Giro Plus 0 € (student) Post + bank, flexible
Deutsche Bank Studierende 0 € (student) Prestige + easy international transfers
Sparkasse 2-5 € Local, branches on every corner

Important Notes

  • The Sperrkonto itself is NOT a current account — you cannot withdraw money, you can only receive transfers.
  • Money payouts are automatic (992 € monthly) — if not automatic, it can be set up in your panel.
  • Proof of foreign currency outflow for money sent from Turkey should be kept as a bank statement (in case of a tax audit in Germany).

Sending Additional Money from Turkey

If the 992 €/month from your Sperrkonto is not enough, you can receive transfers from your family in Turkey directly to your Girokonto. Use Wise/Revolut/bank SWIFT — not to the Sperrkonto.

It is not necessary to deposit additional money into your Sperrkonto throughout the year — for the visa, only the initial 11,904 € is sufficient.
