Yes, a separate Sperrkonto is opened for each family member. A single account does not cover the entire family.

#Scenarios

#1. If you are going with your spouse

• You (student): 11,904 € Sperrkonto (for student visa)
• Spouse (accompanying): Family reunification visa is required → separate Sperrkonto for spouse 8,388 €/year (approx. 700 €/month) or alternative proof of income
• If your spouse works in Germany → salary/employment contract replaces Sperrkonto

#2. With a child

• Additional amount per child: ~6,000-8,000 €/year (varies by age, distinction for under/over 14 years)
• For the child in Sperrkonto: separate account or Verpflichtungserklärung (guarantor relative living in Germany)
• Application for Kindergeld for the child is made after arriving in Germany (250 €/month)

#3. If you are going alone and will bring your family later

• Only your own Sperrkonto (11,904 €) is sufficient
• When family reunification is applied for later, an additional Sperrkonto is opened with the amounts valid at that time
