What kind of questions are asked in hospital job interviews in Germany?

Hospital interviews in Germany are usually structured around four areas:

1. Professional knowledge and experience – your training, previous wards or departments, procedures you can do independently, how you handle documentation and hygiene standards.
2. Teamwork and reliability – shift work, handovers, working with nurses, doctors and other professions, how you deal with conflict in a team.
3. Stress and difficult situations – examples of emergencies you handled, how you prioritise, how you react to mistakes.
4. Language and integration – your German level, whether you understand patients and colleagues, whether you plan to stay.

For regulated health professions (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and others) the interview is not the only hurdle: you also need recognition of your qualification and proof of German, normally at least B2, plus a professional language exam (Fachsprachprüfung) for doctors. Employers often ask about the status of your recognition procedure.

Prepare a short German self-introduction, two or three concrete examples from your practice, and questions about the ward, onboarding and language support.
