Über das Programm
In the age of globalization, cultural and linguistic diversity is an integral part of everyday life in metropolitan areas. Concepts for dealing with the linguistic complexity of these metropolises are among the greatest challenges of the 21st century - which the master's program "Mehrsprachigkeit und Bildung - MOTION: Multilingual Educational Linguistics" intensively addresses scientifically. The long tradition of multilingualism research at the University of Hamburg enables studies at the pulse of current research. It is a joint degree program of the Faculty of Education (EW) and the Departments of Language, Literature and Media (SLM) of the Faculty of Humanities. The program conveys the current state of knowledge of an interdisciplinary approach to the phenomenon of multilingualism in urban spaces. Students acquire the ability to work independently with scientific methods and findings and to apply their knowledge and problem-solving skills in new and unfamiliar interdisciplinary contexts of linguistic and educational issues related to multilingualism. At the same time, students gain direct insights into multilingual situations and problem areas in educational institutions and public life facilities through practice-oriented modules.
