German Language and Literature (binational)

Master

Über das Programm

The Master's programme in German Studies with Binational Option at the University of Kassel offers a unique opportunity to experience the German language, literature and culture from a new, international perspective. In cooperation with the Hungarian University of Szeged, this programme enables students to engage intensively with German studies research in a European context. The programme is characterised by a strong international focus. Students deal with questions of cultural studies and consider language and literature in a European context. The close cooperation with the University of Szeged makes it possible to combine German studies at home and abroad and this intercultural experience broadens horizons and promotes a deep understanding of different perspectives and ways of thinking. A special feature of the programme is the opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Szeged. Students immerse themselves in a different academic environment and work closely with Hungarian peers and professors; this experience brings with it new questions and perspectives that may not arise at German universities. The exchange not only promotes understanding of other cultures, but also the ability to look beyond the national horizon. The programme consists of a variety of modules covering both linguistics and literary studies. The research traditions and methods of both countries will be compared and reflected upon and in Szeged there is a special focus on Austrian literature and culture, which offers students a wide range of cultural and literary insights. The Master's programme lasts four semesters and leads to a double degree, which means that graduates receive certificates from both universities. This double degree is not only academically valuable, but also opens up excellent career opportunities; graduates are ideally equipped to work in international and intercultural contexts, be it in academia, education or cultural institutions. The MA in German Studies with a Binational Option is ideal for anyone interested in German language, literature and culture from an international perspective. With its focus on intercultural and interdisciplinary skills, it offers an exceptional study experience that broadens horizons and opens up new career opportunities.
