Über das Programm

The BA in Economics, Politics, and Social Thought provides specialist training in economics and politics within the framework of a liberal arts education. The program has a modular structure comprising 256 ECTS credits over four academic years. Students complete a core program addressing central developments in intellectual and cultural history from ancient societies to the present day, alongside economics and politics courses essential for achieving an advanced level of competence in these fields. The program structure includes: 1) A core component (48 ECTS) consisting of 6 semester-long core modules covering Greek Civilization, Medieval Literatures and Cultures, Renaissance Art and Thought, Early Modern Science, Origins of Political Economy, and Modernism; 2) A foundational Economics component (40 ECTS) with modules in Principles of Economics, Mathematics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Statistics; 3) A foundational Politics component (40 ECTS) covering Understanding Politics, Comparative Politics, International Studies and Globalization, and Policy Analysis; 4) An advanced component (40 ECTS) where students choose either the advanced economics or politics component, or pursue a double concentration; 5) An elective component (72 ECTS) allowing students to choose courses from various disciplines; and 6) A Senior Core Colloquium and Senior Thesis project in the fourth year. Students must declare their concentration (economics or politics) by the end of their second year, with a double concentration also possible. The degree promotes critical thinking and reflection preparatory to innovative and cross-disciplinary academic work, and provides excellent groundwork for graduate study or professional work in economics or politics.
